Quickstart

Get Datawise connected to your stack and detecting schema changes in under 30 minutes.

Recommended Setup Order

Connect your integrations in this order. Each step builds on the previous one.

1. Snowflake or BigQuery — your warehouse is the foundation. Schema Radar runs against it.
2. dbt Cloud — adds transformation layer lineage. Required for full downstream impact.
3. GitHub — enables Schema Guardian. Pre-merge PR analysis requires this.
4. Tableau or Power BI — completes the lineage graph to your BI layer.

You don't need all four to get value. Snowflake or BigQuery alone gives you Schema Radar. Adding dbt Cloud gives you lineage through the transformation layer. Adding GitHub gives you Schema Guardian.

Step 1: Connect Your Warehouse

Go to Connectors in the left navigation and select your warehouse.

After a successful connection, Datawise runs an initial ingestion. This typically completes within a few minutes depending on the number of databases and schemas.

Step 2: Connect dbt Cloud

Go to Connectors and select dbt Cloud.

Once connected, Datawise maps dbt model dependencies onto your warehouse lineage. You'll start seeing dbt models in the lineage view.

Step 3: Connect GitHub

Go to Connectors and select GitHub.

This installs the Datawise GitHub App via OAuth and enables Schema Guardian. After connecting your first repo, Schema Guardian begins analyzing pull requests automatically.

Step 4: Connect Your BI Tool

Go to Connectors and select Tableau or Power BI.

Once connected, your Tableau workbooks and Power BI reports appear in the lineage graph as downstream consumers. When a schema change is detected, you'll see which BI assets are at risk.

What Happens Next

After your connectors are set up:

• Schema Radar starts detecting schema changes on your configured schedule.
• Schema Guardian analyzes new pull requests in connected GitHub repos automatically.
• Lineage shows your full stack from warehouse to BI.
• Data Assets populates with all tracked tables, models, and reports.
• Dashboard KPIs update after the first detection run.

If you set a schedule (recommended), Datawise runs ingestion automatically. If not, trigger a manual sync from the Connectors page at any time.
